Cheltenham Civic Awards

“For Projects which, through vision, design and craftsmanship beyond the ordinary, both respect their surroundings and give an example for the future, resulting in a feature of which Cheltenham can be proud.”

The awards, consisting of an engraved glass rose bowl, an illuminated citation and a plaque, may be made in the following categories:

  1. The restoration of a period building, which would normally involve the return of the external appearance of a severely dilapidated building, or a prominent part thereof, largely to its original appearance, and not merely redecoration.

  1. A new building or structure, which contributes to the quality and appearance of the townscape and takes account of the physical context in which it is located.

  1. An improvement to the built or landscaped environment, which confers a genuine new interest or quality to its surroundings.

  1. A new or restored shop-front, which helps to conserve or enhance the street scene, which takes full account of the character of the building in which it is set and which harmonises with other buildings or street features nearby.

The adjudicators will take account of factors such as proportion, design, materials, workmanship and overall composition.

The property must be situated within the Borough of Cheltenham and the work completed within the preceding two years. In appropriate cases, interiors will be considered.

Commendations, with an illuminated citation, may also be made in all categories.
